Bags of help sensory room

Tesco’s Bags of Help project

The Waggy Dog Project is in the running to bag a massive cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive a cash award.  We are delighted to be one of the groups on the shortlist.

How do I vote?

Voting is open in Tesco Bathgate and Tesco East Calder throughout November and December. You can cast your vote using a token given at the check-out in store each time you shop.

What will we do with the cash boost?

We recently recently opened a base in Broxburn to run all our clubs and outreach.  These clubs are for children and young adults with autism and/or additional support needs. Children of all ages can come to any of the clubs with plenty to choose from.  There are Lego clubs, messy play, computer club, free play, glee club and dog therapy to relax and enjoy.

Sometimes children are overcome by the social experiences at these clubs. To help with this we plan to use the funding to build a sensory den.  This will be a safe space where children can choose to take some time to cope with these pressures.

The Den

The den will be equipped with specialised painting in muted dark colours, dark carpeting and/or rugs and a black ceiling to emphasise the sensory objects in the room. In addition, there will be soft padded furniture, ultraviolet and/or black lighting, lava and/or bubble lamps, tactile fabrics and textures, neon toys, fibre optics, space blankets, and projections.
