The Waggy Dog Project works in partnership with the Animal Behaviour Centre providing Autism Assistance Dogs throughout the UK.
Our Autism Assistance Dog Programme enables families who complete our program with a suitable puppy or young dog to have a fully qualified autism assistance dog.
Having an autism assistance dog can provide companionship and safety to a child or young adult.
All potential clients must complete an application form to be considered for the program. Once an application has been received it will be reviewed by our team. After review a member of the team will be in touch to discuss the programme further including suitability, costs etc.
The success of the programme relies on the commitment of the applicant to train with their dog on a daily basis. The applicant should be able to commit to weekly dog training sessions together with monthly deep dive sessions. Typically we would expect the process to qualification to take between 12 and 18 months. Additionally, once qualifed, dogs have to continue training regularly, be tested annually and have regular reviews.
